Dry eye can become a persistent, uncomfortable problem

What is Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly, leading to discomfort, irritation, and sometimes blurred vision.

This is one of the most common eye conditions we see at Eyes by Design. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Age-related changes
  • Extended screen time
  • Environmental conditions (CPAP Machines, wind, air conditioning, heating)
  • Contact lens wear
  • Lasik Surgery
  • Hormonal change, including Menopause
  • Medications or health conditions

Without proper care, dry eye can become a persistent, uncomfortable problem that impacts your work, leisure, and quality of life.

Have You Noticed These Symptoms?

  • Stinging, burning, or scratchy eyes
  • Redness or irritation
  • Excessive watering (your eyes may overproduce tears in response to dryness)
  • Blurred vision, especially after prolonged focus
  • Feeling like there’s grit or sand in your eyes
  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses
  • Light sensitivity

If these symptoms sound familiar, it’s important to have a dry eye assessment to identify the underlying cause and start the right treatment.

How We Can Help

At Eyes by Design, we take a comprehensive approach to assess and manage dry eye. This ensures that your treatment plan is tailored to your specific needs, providing the best chance for relief.

Your dry eye assessment may include:

  • Tear film analysis to measure the quantity and quality of tears
  • Measuring the health of the glands that produce the oils for your tear film
  • Making sure that there aren’t any underlying eye or health conditions contributing to dryness
  • Chatting about your Lifestyle and environment review to spot possible triggers

Our Dry Eye management options may include:

  • In-office treatments such as heat therapies or lid hygiene procedures
  • Home care routines, including eyelid cleaning, warm compresses, and blinking exercises
  • Tear supplements such as preservative-free lubricating drops or omega oils (See our dry eye products)
  • NuLids Dry Eye System effective for at-home lid hygiene
  • Advice on screen habits, environmental control, and diet to support long-term eye comfort

FAQs About Dry Eye Disease

Q: Is dry eye permanent?
It can be chronic, but with the right treatment plan, symptoms can often be well-controlled.

Q: Do I need to stop wearing contact lenses?
Not always. With proper care, many contact lens wearers continue to wear their lenses comfortably.

Q: Will over-the-counter drops fix it?
They may help temporarily, but they don’t address the underlying cause — that’s why a proper diagnosis is essential.
