When we started Eyes by Design 28 years ago, we had a very clear idea of the kind of practice we wanted to build.
We wanted every person who walked through our doors to feel listened to, understood, and guided toward the best solution for their individual needs. That vision is still at the heart of everything we do today.
Eyes by Design has grown over the years, but our purpose has remained the same: to provide personalised, high-quality independent eyecare with warmth, integrity, and attention to detail.
As a husband-and-wife team, we feel incredibly proud of what Eyes by Design has become and deeply grateful for the trust our community has placed in us over nearly three decades.

Why We Chose to Be Independent

Being independent has always mattered to us.

It means we can take the time to do things properly. It means we can make recommendations based on what is truly best for the person sitting in front of us. It means we can combine clinical excellence with a boutique experience, without compromise.

For us, vision is personal. It affects how you learn, work, drive, read, connect, and experience everyday life. That is why we believe exceptional eyecare should always be tailored to the individual, not treated as a standard transaction.

This independent approach has shaped who we are from day one, and it continues to guide every part of the Eyes by Design experience.

Dr Nick’s Clinical Philosophy

Great eye care goes well beyond “Can you see the letters on the chart?”

Dr Nick’s clinical philosophy as a Behavioural Optometrist focuses on understanding each person’s unique visual demands, lifestyle, and concerns to tailor the right solution. Every patient is distinct, with individual visual needs that deserve individual answers.

Dr Nick believes people can feel the difference when their vision is considered properly, with time, precision, and genuine care. At Eyes by Design, you are a name, not a number.

As part of that commitment to precision, Eyes by Design is one of very few practices in Australia to offer the Rodenstock DNEye Scanner, capturing over 7,000 biometric measurements per eye to deliver truly bespoke vision solutions.

We’ve seen firsthand how big the difference can be when a lens is custom-made with German engineering using real biometric data. It’s one of the reasons Dr Nick was invited to speak internationally about this breakthrough technology and its impact on real-world vision.

Upon meeting Dr Nick I felt at ease and he was extremely validating accommodating. I have adhd and anxiety and he made me feel comfortable and even went the further steps to fully explain in detail the processes and technologies he uses. This was such a positive experience for me and he and Raymond have been nothing short of understanding and accommodating with me. After the appointment Raymond was so extremely nice helping me choose frames and answering my questions. The ongoing support has also been amazing. The service here is always outstanding, and Nick’s knowledge and attention to detail are second to none. Even after moving interstate three years ago, I still make the trip back because no one else gets it right like Nick does.
