Lens Tints to Customise Your Glasses

Lens Tints Add Style And Enhance Your Vision

Do you get excited about shopping for new glasses? Or do you dread the thought of having to work out what suits you, worried that you will make the wrong choice?

Glasses are an integral part of your aesthetic and overall style, but not just that.

They affect how you see the world, so choosing glasses is an important purchasing decision.

You need the people helping you through the process to be very engaging or helpful.  At Eyes by Design, we know we can help you find that perfect balance between style and function, and one of the ways we do this is by talking about tint options.

Tints will not only change the way your frames can look, but they can also enhance your vision.

Adding A Tint To Your Glasses Can Be An Exciting Option.

It’s a fantastic way to customise your eyewear and make them improve for specific purposes.

The perfect tint for you could range a range of cosmetic tints in just about any colour or density you can imagine, to photochromatic lenses, which darken according to the amount of UV light as well as polarised tints, which are the most effective option for cutting reflected glare.

And a pair of glasses is only perfect once they have the right tint, and as you keep reading, you will agree!

The most straightforward tint is very subtle, and our most popular one is a light blue tint. It is a little edgier than grey or brown, plus blue is more relaxing for the eyes.

You want to avoid going for something too bold or too prominent because the tint accentuates the shape of the frames. The subtle tint will reduce brightness, which is perfect for people who work in a brightly lit environment. Nowadays, you’re exposed to harsh indoor lighting conditions. A slight tint reduces the intensity of the glare you see but adds a cool aesthetic and customisation, making your glasses your own.

Something A little Edgy

You can customise your lenses with a gradient tint! The colour is the same. This is a gradient tint, lighter at the bottom and darker at the top.  You get the best of both worlds, and many people like gradient tints.

There is also psychology with a tint.

It’s like a barrier between you and the real world, which can be overwhelming at times, and some of our customers have taken a while to get out and be social again after two years of social distancing. Placing a tint on your lenses is a way of creating a shield of sorts.

Night Vision Tints

Do not get sucked into outdated advertising! In years gone by, coloured tints were said to help with night vision – This is not the case!

If you want the best vision at night, you need a clear lens with a special coating for that.  Adding our digital coating to your clear prescription lenses will give you the best vision in night-time situations.

Our digital coating reduces glare from oncoming traffic, enhances night vision, and gives you more confidence when driving in the dark.

Tints For Outdoors – Consider Adaptive Lenses

We recommend photochromatic technology, which goes clear when you go back inside out of the sun.

Given the available light conditions, these lenses go as dark as you need them to go.  So, if it is very bright, they go very dark, and when it is cloudy, they only go half as dark.

But the disadvantage is that photochromatic lenses do not work well in the car.

This is because the lenses need UV light to change, and car windows and windscreens block UV light, so the UV required to trigger the change on the lenses does not reach them.  You can solve this problem by buying separate sunglasses or buying a convertible!!

Photochromatic lenses are great as a day-to-day everyday lens and particularly useful when you’re in and outdoors frequently.  They don’t truly replace sunglasses, and you should think of them as something other than a real two-in-one, but having that element of tint is cool.

Graduated Sunglasses Tints

These are revolutionising Sunglasses!

These lenses are darker at the top of the lens and lighter at the bottom.  These are even comfortable to wear inside when ducking in and out of buildings because you can adjust your head angle to vary the amount of light you can see through the lenses.

It means you can take out one pair of sunglasses, no matter what the weather, and you know you will be suited for those conditions. If you need to go inside, you can see just as well as if it gets overcast.

We can even customise your lenses with a graduated tint, mirrored coating and polarisation to protect you from the most direct or brightest sunlight. Our most popular sunglasses for extreme conditions are Maui Jim – You can read here why we recommend them.

Polarised lenses cut out 99 percent of reflected glare from either the road or any other reflective surface, such as water or sand.  So, it’s great to have a pair of polarised mirrored sunglasses for those extreme glare conditions, but they are less versatile than photochromatic lenses.

We can customise the lenses to suit your needs!

The Final Word on Glasses and Tints

For our clients who wear glasses full time, having choices on which frames to wear and how they look will add a bit of flair to your life!! Have you read our article on how to choose the perfect frames? It is not as daunting as you think and we love helping our customers with a new look!

We do suggest three pairs of glasses.

One pair is your everyday wear, and this is where we look at your typical activities and help you select the frame and lenses that suit this.

Out in the Sun – Sunglasses, and again, we can customise the lenses to match what you need them for – Driving, Fishing, Golf or Exercising.

And the third pair – Have some fun. Something a little funky or dressy when you have an occasion or just feel like a change! Have you see our new range? The Elusive Miss Lou is fun and a little quirky!

Have you thought about adding a tint to your lenses?

Not only do they enhance your vision, but they can also add a bit of extra pizazz to your frames as well!

And our last word – We always recommend our durable anti reflective coating, which means they’re free from reflections but are also tough against scratches – Protecting your eyewear at all times.
